Great Service & Staff very friendly and helpful. Excellent meal.........especailly enjoyed the Bar billiards, not seen one for ages. We had a room viewing out to the side. If you can get the room overlooking the Church much better as you can see the sea too.

Bus overlooking into room felt like they could see in but probably couldn't!

  • Older travelers

Fantastic room with a wonderful view of the old church and surrounding park. Room was a good size and the bed very comfortable. Good solid breakfast.

  • Older travelers

We liked the relaxed and informal atmosphere and the staff were all friendly and helpful. The food wasn't fancy, but of good quality and well cooked. The hotel is ideally placed for local walks and only a short drive away from Rye.

  • Older travelers

A beautiful & historic location. A warm welcome & excellent service from the staff.

Our room was above the kitchen and the extractor was beneath our window. The decor in the public areas is rather tired.

  • Couple

Pretty location, Friendly staff, nice breakfast and fun pub games.

Pub is lacking in atmosphere. Rooms at front of hotel might be better. Room 5 is noisy and smells of food due to proximity of kitchen extractor fan. Room was also on the small side.

  • Group of friends

Wonderful 17th century Inn. Oak beams and uneven floors add to the charm. As well as an 'original' bar. The room was clean and adequate. Dinner was exceptionally good. Being freshly cooked. The staff were very polite and attended to any request promptly. Dont expect 5 star accomodation or 5 star service just enjoy the fact that this Inn has been here for so long and has an ambience that 'plastic' pubs do not have.

  • Older travelers

This hotel is a traditional pub with rooms upstairs and a bar-restaurant downstairs, the staff were helpful and hardworking, the food pleasant and straightforward. The room we were in was spacious with a pretty view over the old church. The 4 poster bed was comfortable. Full English Breakfast was well prepared and included in the price.

Winchelsea is a very pretty village and very quiet compared to Rye. We would not recommend this hotel for a family with children nor for anyone expecting a bustling tourist town; go to Rye for that. The Hotel has no comfortable sitting area only the restaurant-bar. It could do with a few easy chairs and a sofa in a corner somewhere downstairs. At the moment it has none of the cosiness one normally expects in this sort of hotel.

  • Older travelers

Excellent food. Quite the best we have had for many a long day and we travel world

  • Older travelers

Shabby and unkempt, it was a great disappointment. I got the impression that it got sufficient custom from being well located but no body cared about standards and thatit was being run by amateurs.

  • Older travelers

Very relaxed, informal hotel/inn in a quiet and peaceful location, ideal for a relaxing weekend. Staff friendly and helpful. Good food, nicely presented, ample portions and good value.

  • Couple

2nd time of staying here, once again the staff were great. Polite, well mannered and attentive. The food was once again very good, well cooked and presented with a good if not large choice to choose from.

Nothing much not too like, just a few minor niggles such as the stair carpet to the rooms was quite badly worn and dirty. In the room the shower could have been a bit more powerful but just minor things.

  • Older travelers

Its location in charming small town

Didn't conform to health, safety or minimal tourist board standards.

  • Couple

The place was amazing! The hotel is located in a very ancient small town in front of a very old church. It looks like a bit frozen in time. I loved it!

It could have a fan or an air conditioning in the bedroom.

  • Older travelers

Nothing specific to 'like'. A reasonable/standard hotel experience with a couple of niggles.

    1. The hanging pub sign squeakes loadly in the wind. Not great for a good nights sleep. 2. Extremely slow service at breakfast - particularly considering they had arrival fixed time.

  • Couple

The hotel food was good, and the staff were friendly. We had dinner at the hotel, and breakfast too. Both meals were good.

The hotel rooms are quite dated, but clean.
